Supply Chain Day in Uni-logistics
On April 21, 2022, as part of the Tag der Logistik (Supply Chain Day), a trip was organized by the University of Gdańsk, Logistics Students Association. The students and their tutor went on study visits to Uni-logistics Ltd. and LPP S.A.
At Uni-Logistics, a meeting was held with the Operations Director and Sales Director and managers responsible for rail and road transport. Students learned what the company does and what types of services and products it offers. Attention was also paid to what competencies are related to work in the logistics services industry and what challenges employees face, both on a daily basis and those that are sporadic exceptions, e.g. unusual orders or blocking the Suez Canal.
At the end of the meeting, the representative of the HR department presented job offers and internships offered by the company and encouraged students to apply.
At the LPP Distribution Center in Pruszcz Gdański, the warehouse manager and employer branding specialist guided the students, having the opportunity to see the functioning of logistics processes "from the inside out". As a result, the entire journey of the goods in their distribution centre has been traced by students during this very trip. First, the reception area was shown, where the participants of the visit could see the booms, conveyors and the process of pre-sorting packages, then the sorting process using RFID technology and the preparation of cardboard packaging. Next, the participants visited a fully automated high-bay warehouse.
Definitely, both study visits significantly broadened the students' knowledge and made it possible to learn about the positions they may be working on in the future.
