Supply Chain Day Workshops at the University of Economics in Katowice

On Thursday, April 19 this year, at our University were held workshops as a part of the Supply Chain Day 2018.

This year, for the fourth time, our University joined the celebrations of this European event, together with Nexteer and TransEdu.  Our University was the first center in Poland that joined the organization of the event. 46 persons attended the event this year. The invitation for the event was addressed to the students of the University, especially for those who study: Logistics, International Economic Relations and Economic Analysis and to the employees of our University.

Participants had the opportunity to take part in two workshops. The first one was related to planning experiments in products and processes designing with optimizing costs. After introducing and learning the main elements (principles) of the workshop, the participants started conducting experiments that took place in two phases. The first one served to determine the main parameters affecting the process and aimed to determine the optimum of these parameters. The condition limiting the number of experiments ("research") was their costs. In the second phase - after drawing the appropriate conclusions - the participants could verify the previously conducted experiments, conclusions and assumptions. The participants learned how good planning of the process directly affects logistics activities in the supply chain. The workshop was led by Nexteer employees: Ms Anna Ossowska, MA, Director of Supply Chain in Nexteer Automotive Poland Sp. z o.o., a member of the Logistics Program Board at the Faculty of Management, Mr Adam Urbanek, M.Sc., engineer, Leader in Process Improvement and Mr Marcin Gacek, M.Sc., engineer, Engineer for Process Improvement.

Participants in the second group took part in the workshop called "Virtual TransEdu Academy - support for supply chains". The workshop in the first part concerned the presentation and discussion of modern information technologies used in medium and large logistics companies operating witin supply chains. In the second part of the workshop simulation of the carrier's behavior on the transport market took place. The form of the workshop was based on the gamification system - the participants competed with each other. On the basis of the so-called TransEdu knowledge course participants also got to know applications supporting learning processes in logistics. The workshop was led by Mr Bogumił Paszkiewicz, TransEdu Project Manager.

In the celebration of the Supply Chain Day 2018, a group of pupils took part, from the School of Administration, Economics and General Education in Bytom. The School is under the auspices of the University of Economics in Katowice.
